John Wilkes Booth accidentally forgot to load his derringer prior before visiting Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865. Furthermore, President Abraham Lincoln was well trained in various forms of martial arts.

Thread move to Pre-1900 as this is not a ASB thread.

I think Lincoln would've drop kicked Booth or even tossed him over the balcony before he had a chance to draw his knife.

And there are many martial arts techniques with which to disarm someone in a similar situation.

And there are many martial arts techniques with which to disarm someone in a similar situation. Do not think that Lincoln would do that.

Very well, I will go ahead and lock since this timeline was dependent on Lincoln defending himself.

Lincoln was warming up to votes for Blacks. Maybe he works with Congress to get the right to vote included in the 14th Amendment.

Consider the "martial arts training" bit officially retconned as absolutely pointless.

Consider the "martial arts training" bit officially retconned as absolutely pointless. That why it is in the ASB board, so it is not pointless, just ASB material.

You moved the timeline out of ASB anyways so I went ahead and retconned a rather stupid plot element. I'd edit it out if not for the fact my window expired a long time ago.

Looking at the plausibility for a second. Define Martial Arts.
They are any fighting style so something like Greco-Roman wrestling or boxing wouldn't be unlikely.
So, John Wilkes-Booth has a misfire in his pistol, the primer cap goes off but not the main charge so the gun doesn't fire but the crack from the primer alerts Lincoln. Henry Rathbone attempts to subdue Wilkes-Both, but he breaks free, and pulling his knife dives towards the now alerted President. Calling on his boxing prowess, he delivers a perfectly timed uppercut to the jaw of John Wilkes-Booth who drops like a sack of flour. Wilkes-Booth is arrested and taken away, after a short trial is hung.
Sorry Patrick, I hate to say this but your premise is not that implausible. If you've spent your life chopping wood manually, you're going to have a pretty good swing and solid muscles. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that punch to be honest.
I would suspect that the Uppercut punch would be renamed the Lincoln Punch though.
