As some of you may have seen on AH.com, I am now one of the hosts of the Alternate History Show, a podcast/radio show run by Ben Kearns (peelitebkearns on AH.com). We have recently recorded our first episode; the links are below. This one was about WWII - it's pretty basic, partially so it can go on radio in England. Part onePart twoPart threeI did make a point to name-drop this site. We're also looking for future topics and future co-hosts. Ben is looking to do an episode on the Anarchy in England, so I'd also appreciate any book recommendations on that epoch. I can take any feedback here.

I listened to the 1st one and will try and catch up with the other two soon. Of course there are always plenty of options that could take hours to discuss each but some good points there. My thoughts were on two specific ones.
1) A Munich war in which case the western powers support the Czechs over the Sudatenland and war comes in autumn 38. I know there are some suggestions that Chamberlain threw the Czechs under the bus so to speak to gain time because the allies weren't ready and that they were relatively stronger in 39 when war came but I'm doubtful of this for three reasons. a) Everything I've read seems to suggest that Chamberlain was still hoping that the OTL agreement would lead to peace and Hitler could actually be trusted. He put a hell of a lot of capital into the Pact with Hitler and lost influence as a result so I doubt that he would have done that if he thought he was just gaining some time. Furthermore it was only after the invasion and annexation of the rump Czech state that Britain really went into full scale rearmament, with conscription being introduced in peacetime for the 1st time in British history. b) I would have thought the allies would have been stronger fighting then simply because the Czechs would have been fighting as well, with a well organised and equipped force and good defensive positions boosted by the mountainous terrain. Even if the French had been as impassive as in Sept 39 - and Britain didn't have the forces to do anything on the ground itself at either time - then the Czechs are likely to cause some heavy casualties on the German forces which are smaller and weaker in 38 than they were a year later. Also while they might well still get the Czech gold they won't get a lot of the Czech military forces, Czech tanks forming a substantial proportion of 'German' armour in the 1st years of the war. Similarly their unlikely to get a lot of Czech heavy industry undamaged. c) Although this is over visible in hindsight Germany's economic position is vastly weaker with war in 38 compared to 39. Hitler will be seen as more of a rogue leader and the Poles to his east and importantly the Romanians are likely to be very wary of him while with no Pact with Stalin he can't rely on Soviet supplies to undermine the blockade the allies will impose. This could well cause serious problems for Germany very quickly. You might even see one of the mythical anti-Nazi coups by the German military that seems to be on the horizon so often but never actually occurred other than the rather feeble attempt in 44.
2) In talking about a situation where the invasion of France failed you seemed to be suggesting at one point a peace being patched up between the allies and the Nazis and then the latter invading Russia without facing war in the east and a blockade. Unless possibly I misunderstood?? This seems extremely unlikely to me. Not only did both western powers realise they could no longer trust Hitler at all but baring a complete collapse of the German position the Nazis will not only still have most of Poland - which the western powers went to war to protect, and the Czechs but also Denmark, Norway, almost certainly most of the Benelux region and quite possibly parts of France. Also a German defeat is likely to have seen then having heavy losses in armor and air especially and a Hitler will lack much of the prestige he gained OTL. Not sure how such a conflict would have gone as its likely to still be bloody while the behaviour of the USSR and Japan would be uncertain factors, Italy too to a degree but can't see some sort of compromise peace being agreed at that point.
Anyway some very interesting ideas and will try and listen to the other two sections. Many thanks.

spanishspy , it seems that Part 1,2 and 3 of your first podcast are no longer online. Why must that be, do you think? Could European internet laws possibly have something to do with it becoming unavailable, yet again?
