Interesting. Have heard of this before but not in so much detail. Sounds like a hell of a performance by that tank and its crew.
I think, unless I misheard Mark got one thing wrong. The Soviets may have produced about 5,000 KV1's during WWI but they definitely didn't have that many in 1941.
Given that the Germans managed such great success in 1941 they must have found solutions to the KV1 but wondering what those were?

Looked up some sites - seems the Soviets had some 4-500 KV-1 in service by June 1941. Then there was a lull in production as factories were moved across the Urals. According to this site the major impediment to the crews handling the vehicle was the small narrow sights for them to use when running hatches closed and the ancient running gear taken from a commercial Holt-Caterpillar tractor which was too inferior to handle the Tank on the battlefield. The bad sights also contributed the at times the tank just milling around the battlefield with crews not able to make out their surroundings.

Medieval Knight Stopped Hitler's Tanks! - Mark Felton Productions - 515 My first thought - evidence of ISOT but a man living in another century decided to do what his country didn't. He might have been delusional and slightly off his wits but had some guts. Honor him!

It says something about the state of Russia that its relying on technical support from N Korea and Iran. However it does show a worrying sign about the loose coalition of despots increasingly working together for their common aims, which are by definition hostile to the interests of the rest of the world.

Hearing a lot that North Korean ammunition is as deadly to the Russians firing them as the Ukrainians receiving them.

I've seem some references to its quality control - lack of - as well. Which is possibly the saving grace for both Ukraine and S Korea.
