Here is the Special Features vignette known as "We Interrupt This Program" which contains an in-universe news broadcast. Here are the following maps of the outbreak within the continental United States, May 7-8, 2004  Hour 3 (May 7, 2004): Infections reported in Arizona, Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, and Ohio. Looks like San Antonio got hit 49ersfootball . I guess you would have been called to report to the nearest Air Base for duty to restore order.  Hour 10 (May 8, 2004): Infection reported at Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Hour 15 (May 8, 2004): Infections reported at Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, and Utah.  Hour 17 (May 8, 2004): Infection reported at the District of Colombia. Delaware and Rhode Island still reports no infection. No information on Alaska and Hawaii though it can be assumed those states do not have infection as well.  Hour 19 (May 8, 2004): Delaware and Rhode Island still free of infection.  Hour 20 (May 8, 2004): Still no infections at Delaware and Rhode Island. Major cities are hotbeds of cases.  Hour 26 (May 9, 2004): Delaware and Rhode Island finally succumb to the virus. They were the last two states to report no infection for 26 hours. The entire continental United States has fallen to the virus. Only Alaska and Hawaii plus some territories remain infection free. NBA Conference Semifinals (May 2-7, 2004) It appears that the Detroit Pistons and the New Jersey Nets were in the middle of the a game when the outbreak occurred on that night of May 7th, 2004. 49ersfootball |

I'd take it they'd probably evacuate most of their population to sea. For Rhode Island, it's possible they moved their population to the Outer Lands (Natuckett and others) but then there will also be refugees from MA, CT, and NY. So Outer Lands would probably suffer like those Lake Michigan islands seen in the ending. |

Seems Rhode Island has a Naval Militia, thus they could arm some boats with weapons of the Rhode Island State Guard ore Rhode Island National Guard, they also can ferry people and supplies to the island using the 143d Airlift Wing (143 AW), a unit of the Rhode Island Air National Guard.  |

Doubt more than 1 million people can fir on that island, as that was the population number of Rhode Island in 2004. |

Except both of them would probably be dead or a running corpse. A lot of famous people will be, money and fame is not going to help them. If we're talking about Hollywood, they had at least 6-7 hours of warning time before they could have evacuated on their luxury boats or planes. |
