amir , Good update and hopefully taking out a very important target.
Would providing some cover for the team be that good an idea? Unless its high enough to allow air to circulate its going to be stiffing under it which might be worse than direct sunlight. Also since their trying to keep a low profile on the rooftop it could make them more prominent for any enemy fire. Mind you direct sunlight in Libya is going to be bad so could still be worth the risk.

You’re absolutely right, the last thing this team wants to do is erect a circus tent over their location. Nothing says “shoot here” like something different from the background. My research showed pictures of positions like this in semi secure areas during Grenada and Lebanon would have a “shade sail” type structure that stayed low to block the sun while remaining behind cover.
The good news is the team won’t be there that long. They’ll get moved forward as positions with better lines of sight become available.
According to the available manuals and news stories I read LLVI is neither fish nor fowl.
They are a military intelligence asset employed for signals intelligence in forward areas. Like most surveillance assets they “hide with pride”. As such they tend to be employed behind friendly front lines in positions allowing them “see” forward of friendly lines.
Their cousins are the Special Forces SOT-A . Same equipment, same basic mission, but designed to operate well forward of friendly lines. All I could glean is that they have extra tactical and infiltration training and higher physical standards.

Yes, they are more or less chronological. The assault has been four lifts- 3/325 Airborne Battalion Combat Team then three Task Force Packages from 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne. That’s done now and the Paratroopers are fighting to open the runway and expand the airhead. I’ve tried to move the POV through the timeline as we went. There are some references in each story to events in others where needed, but each is intended to be a “snapshot in time” of the operation with past events for context.
