What other events will be butterflied here? Will the "Battle of Berkeley" still occur? What about the Congressional Baseball shooting or the Las Vegas mass shooting? I'm also curious if terrorist attacks will still occur in the UK such as the Ariana Grande concert, the London Bridge attack, Finsbury terror attack, Greenfell Tower, and the Parsons Green bombing? What about Parkland? Does it still occur here? Also with the North Korean question solved, that means the January 2018 false alarm is butterflied away. They will not happen, but alternate events similar to them will occur. How so will these terror attacks not occur? Some of it were already planned months ahead especially the Ariana Grande concert. As for Parkland, well the perpetuator was already in the verge of collapsing and that's why he went on mass shooting. Unless the butterflies of this timeline cause him to have sought help rather than keep the anger to himself.

I didn’t know about the planning behind the Grande one, and in Parkland, it’s going to occur differently. The butterflies won’t completely eliminate them, but they will modify how they occur.

Thanksgiving Day attacks, November 23th, 2017
Terrorist had long been a problem. They first came to attention with attacks on the Twin Towers in 1993 and 2001, and an attack on Paris in 2015. However, with the ending of the Syrian Conflict, terrorist groups were getting desperate. They planned out an attack on a city in the home state of President Cruz, in places in and around Dallas, Texas. They were planned for Thanksgiving Day.
The attack were very deliberate. 7 vans contained bombs which would bring down Trinity Tower in downtown Dallas. 6 bombs were also placed in and around AT&T stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys were set to play the Los Angeles Chargers.
The day of the attacks started with celebrations in and around Downtown Dallas and the nation. The Cowboys game started at 4 PM local time. 6:17 into the second quarter the bombs went off, killing 343 spectators. The Cowboys, in the middle of a drive, stopped running the ball and ran for the locker room. Dallas PD arrived on the scene with the FBI. However, the Trinity Tower bombs resulted in the structural collapse of the building, killing 1,221.
President Cruz, who was in North Texas at the time, was quickly taken to a safe center in the city hall of the nearby city of Denton. Cruz gave a speech there mourning the lives of the around 1,400 people who died.
The response to these attacks showed how unprepared the US was. President Cruz’s popularity took a hit. Secretary of the Treasury Donald Trump urged Cruz to take a harder stance on Muslim-majority countries, but Cruz used an all-together different response. To the public, it appeared as if he was doing nothing. In private, he was having the FBI and CIA infiltrate terrorist groups. Over 3,000 terrorist where killed by US personnel in the next few months. However, news sources would move on to something completely different once Dan Patrick, Cruz’s appointed Senate replacement, proposed as bill to the Senate in December that attracted global attention.

The Tax Act of 2017 was, by the name, seems like it would be uncontroversial. However, the bill proposed by Dan Patrick, the senate replacement for Ted Cruz, promised to do something that seemed unrealistic. The entirety of the US Tax Code came into question. The Tax Act would erase the entire tax code and replace it with three taxes: a $500 citizenship tax, an 8% sales tax, and a tariff of 2% on all imports and exports (1% to GTO countries). The IRS would also create an annual report prioritizing government branches, although the military would be placed above all else.
Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, had scheduled the voting to go on December 3rd, 2017. Patrick opened the bill on the floor of the Senate.
“Senators, our constituents elected us for a reason. They elected us to represent them. They don’t want to be forced to pay more then their next door neighbors. They don’t want to pay a huge amount, a percentage of their income, to us, who have a very poor track record with money. Additionally, this abolishes the income tax, whose origins lie with Karl Marx. Let us keep our promise to Make America Great Again! Abolish this confusing mess of a tax code!”
Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Kamala Harris lead the opposition. President Cruz really wanted the bill passed, and even had the President of the Senate and VPOTUS Bush give a speech on the Senate floor, unprecedented for its time. However, the GOP’s majority pushed the bill through in a 52-48 vote. Speaker Ron Paul put the bill on the House floor, where it also passed on January 13, 2018. President Cruz then signed it into law two days later. The bills biggest opposition came from the governor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom. Newsom was a proponent of the income tax and veminentally opposed the passage of the bill. Newsom pushed the governor of California to keep the income tax in place. Succession talks began, as California had to cut massive amounts from their budget. It set the stage for the California Compact.
Gavin Newsom invited Senators Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, and others to form the Progressive Alliance, the new PAC who would come to affect the 2018 Midterms so much. But between then and the present would come the next piece of politics, a vacancy on the SCOTUS.

When does the timeline become dystopian? It doesn’t. Never said it would.

It will be more right-wing (ie the GOP can win the popular vote) but it’s not going to be any more dystopic then this year has been (which, to be fair, is pretty dystopic). I know AH.com has a similar scenario to this, but personally, I like Cruz and think he’d do a decent or better job as president, and this scenario (though I hope is not idealistic) is going to be above par compared to this TL.

To be honest, Trumps unprofessionalism is probably what won him the nomination in real life. Anyway, speaking of Trump, he not ever gonna run for president again ITTL.

The SCOTUS had already seen one Cruz pick- Mike Lee- and no one thought another was so close. Justice Anthony Kennedy retired 16 months after Lee joined the court. Cruz, of course, quickly made his pick- Daniel Cameroon, AG of Kentucky.
The Progressive Alliance, with a members on the Senate Judiciary Committee who would question Cameroon, hoped to attack the conservative and keep the votes of Democrats and win at least three from the GOP. That Senator was Kamala Harris. California’s Junior Senate fought with Cameroon several times during the week-long hearings, and even in a time of political unity, Harris became the only nay vote on the SJC’s confirming of Cameroon. In the US Senate, only 7 would vote against Cameroon’s confirmation. All were Progressive Alliance members. The Democrats were attacked for not standing by the Progressives. It seemed as if though if might cost them come the midterms.

Going into the midterms, pundits predicted the GOP would narrowly hold onto the Senate and House. Far from it, the GOP shocked everyone when Election Day came. Only three Democrats won Gubernatorial races; Gavin Newsom, Andrew Cuomo, and David Ige. www.270towin.com/2018-governor-election/ymA8The landslide continued in the Senate, where the Progressive Alliance gained new importance in the Democratic Party as longtime incumbent narrowly won re-election is safe Democratic states. www.270towin.com/2018-senate-election/qgRxEaWith a supermajority in the Senate, the House was more competitive. www.270towin.com/2018-house-election/V5XAY4aAlthough there was a weaker showing in the House, a 60% control of the House left Republicans celebrating as Democrats felt the Bern.
