Getting on board with the USAF and the Air Launched Cruise Missile could keep the V bombers viable without having to penetrate Soviet airspace. And of course the submarines as historic, maybe just more of them for 2-5 boats on patrol at all times.
When the Soviets were sabre-rattling, wasn't it Margaret Thatcher that said, "Britain will burn from North to South. But we will not burn alone..."
They would have to be very long ranged to hit likely targets from Ascension, let alone the Falklands! Plus there might be political problems with the latter given there's a treaty meant to keep S America a nuclear free zone. However the northern islands and some of the western mountain valleys would be good potential locations for silos. The problem here might be political as their Scottish or Welsh which is likely to be a potential tool for kicking up a fuss by assorted nationalist groups in those countries.
Air launched cruiser missiles would have been useful for the V force but if their being kept ready for a potential enemy 1st strike, i.e. keeping forces in the air at all times would be bloody expensive. Possibly this might be practical for some of the island bases such as Ascension and Diego Garcia which would have more warning time than bases in the UK.
Can't remember her saying that but quite possible for her. Couldn't find it on a quick search but then I'm not an expert with google.
