This was the plot of an AH story I read a long time ago. I can't remember the name of the story or the author. I was wondering if any of you AH masters might have read it and direct me to where it now resides?
I know this is a long shot but, what the hell, who better to ask?

Well first I think we can find the TL you mentioned Senior Chief but as this is classified as a ASB topic I move it to the ASB board.

I remember reading about it as well, Senior. I don't think I actually read the book, but I remember the blurb on.... Baen.com, I think.
If I can think of it, I'll be sure to let you know.

Belushi TD Likely, it was "Clash of Eagles" by Alan Smale. Opinion? Average read. At least it does try to present an interesting character and situation in a Lewis and Clark type exploration format.

I don't know. Reading the reviews on your link that sounds more like a mega Rome sends a single! legion which is rampaging across N America in, according to one reference the present day. No ISOT involving an entire population and its garrison and not set in 60AD. At least unless oscssw, is off in what he remembered.
Did think initially of the Jim Butcher Codex Alera series - link to the 1st of those - but I suspect its not that either. Since that involved a single legion IIRC being moved to another world where after much struggle they establish a powerful empire in an alien world with magical powers. Plus the series is set around a millennium latter with a growing threat to the empire, with the central character being a youth who finds himself with an ever growing role in events over the series.
Think someone suggested something like oscssw, idea on a thread somewhere, possibly a year or two back as it rings a bell about it being discussed. Something about a Roman force ended up in California IIRC?

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.
Looked up "Clash of Eagles" by Alan Smale. Unfortunately, the plot does not read the like the one I am looking for .
No luck with Baen.com But I did find some pretty good Alt History books worth purchasing.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Got to be better than 2021, I hope.

I am not a fan of Turtledove. Something about his lack of research that just spoils some pretty good plot ideas for me.
I appreciate your efforts my friend.
Merry Christmas, Happy New year and let's hope 2022 is better than 2021.

That is actually the one Turtledove series I really like, possibly because it doesn't have so many close parallels to OTL 19th-20thC. Mind you before I got to the end and read that he was an historical specializing in the Byzantine empire I had recognised his empire. He did plunder a lot of Byzantine history for some of the elements, more than I realised at the time.
Its very much sword and sorcery fantasy rather than AH so anyone interested in that could find it a decent read. There are four books in all, think I still have them in one of the bookcases upstairs.
Of course it's another that don't fit in what oscssw, remembers as its a fantasy world rather than OTL new world but a good find lordroel,

There was a thread like this on AHcom about a year or two ago but don't think it was a full province being ISOT at least for starters..
