Definitely.

As an aside, I think Willis Augustus Lee's nickname was 'Ching'. Short for 'Ching Chong China Lee' when he was at the Academy.




But I distinctly remember a passage in Hammel's Guadalcanal: Decision at Sea where he is setting up Second Guadalcanal. Lee's battleships and four destroyers had been sent in without a call sign, nor anyone else's call signs nor code words, etc. A couple of the PT Boats from Tulagi were overheard on the TBS circuit saying, "There are two really big ones, but I don't know whose they are..."

Lee himself broke in on the TBS circuit and asked for information. He got a terse "We do not recognize you!" in reply.

His response sticks in my head: "Refer your big boss about Ching Lee, savvy? Call off your boys!"

Lee then got a response that the officer knew who he was, but had no information....
