After another round of editing, I have: - fixed many instances of it instead of her or she (don't assume a ship's gender!) - Had the Dutch continue using their Language to name Things instead of English (although I think Swarte Pijl sounds silly). - Removed many location markers (you don't need to tell People Paris is in France, Roel). - Included a ceremony where they celebrate 350 year Dutch-Japanese relatsionship. Which of course ended With a wargame. - started wondering if Roel was paid by the comma or to promote the Dutch Navy. - Did some more designation changing (the scout Crafts are now corvettes, the attack fighters are now strike fighters). War Plans of the Dutch Empire.
Like all countries, the Netherlands has a variety of plans on what to do when it is at war with another country. Some of these plans are just made as an exercise, others are made in the expectation that they may have to be used in real life. Listed below are the most important plans:
War Plan Quartz Caster
The plan to defend against a Japanese invasion. It envisions four different courses a potential war against Japan might take, with the Dutch Navy being able to defend the DEI on its own listed as course 1. If the Dutch Navy is unable to defeat the Japanese invasion fleet on its own, the KNIL will do its best to drive any landing force back into the sea or failing that, to establish a sufficiently strong defence until reinforcements arrive (course 2 and 3). If all else fails and Japan is able to both defeat the Dutch Navy and KNIL, the Netherlands will have no option but to glass the Japanese mainland from orbit until they surrender (course 4).
War Plan Cerulean Lancer
The plan for war against the San Francisco Treaty Organisation. It lays out a plan for the Dutch Navy to launch a mobile defence against the Australian and American navies. If that fails and Java is taken, the Netherlands will be forced to glass select cities from orbit until they surrender.
War Plan Ruby Archer
The plan for war against the United States without NATO or the San Francisco Treaty Organisation joining in. It lines out how the Netherlands will wage a defensive war focused on denying the US any visible progress while at the same time waging an international media war to swing public opinion in their favour. If the United States does force the Netherlands against the figurative wall then they will have no choice but to glass specific targets in the US from orbit until they surrender.

The plan for war against NATO. If such a thing were to happen it was expected that the Netherlands homeland would be completely occupied within a maximum of two days, at which point the Dutch military would have no choice but to glass select targets from orbit until the war could be brought to a favourable end.
War Plan Amber Assassin
The plan for what to do in case of a MAD scenario happening. It lays out how the KNRD will destroy as many of the warheads as possible, ensure the safety of VIPs and in the aftermath to begin transporting survivors to Proxima Centauri b.
War Plan Crimson Avenger
The plan for war against the Warsaw Pact. It concludes that if there is no doubt that the Netherlands are going to get dragged into the fighting, they should support NATO in its defence of Western Europe and if that fails, to glass the Soviet Union from orbit until they surrender.
War Plan Fuchsia Ruler
The plan for what do when East Timor collapses into civil war. It summarizes that an initial attack by fighters to establish air supremacy. While the 5th infantry division does a regular offensive, airmobile troops and marines will capture strategic targets like airfields and harbours to allow the quick ferrying of troops. When the initial fighting is over and both sides has been forced to surrender, it is be up to the KNIL to establish a stable government that is friendly to the Netherlands.

The plan for what to do when the Netherlands is at war with another alien species. It lays out how an offensive fleet will focus on winning battles and occasionally bombard those alien planets from orbit while a defensive force will focus on keeping Earth and Alpha Centauri safe. Essentially, victory through superior firepower.
Ebony Shielder
The plan for what to do in case of a popular uprising in the DEI or in Suriname. After raids by the police or commandos have failed to remove the rebel leadership, it advocates only for a gradual increase in violence, with the army launching a full on war only as a last resort. It also empathises the need for restraint on the part of the military in order to avoid alienating more people than necessary.
It is of great importance that the media and ambassadors do their part to keep popular opinion on the Dutch’s side and discredit the rebels.
If the rebels are successful, the Netherlands will have no choice but to evacuate as many Dutch civilians as possible while denying the rebels as much strategic infrastructure as they can. Ensuring that the KNRD remains secret is of utmost importance.

Some were permantly shelved after the Cold war ended like Crimson Avenger, others proved their worth when it became necessery to use them and most were thankfully never necessery. |

Well the KNRD does not operate any permanent large space ship presence in the Sol system, it does have shuttles who can use torpedoes, the main offensive force the Netherlands has is the Royal Netherlands Air Force No. 311 Fighter/Bomber Squadron - Volkel, NL: 20 Fokker D-24I M.3 jet fighters (Trained in Mark-3 spatial torpedoes delivery), each fighter can carry at least 4 of them. |

The worst Thing that could happen would be if the USA, Soviet Union and Japan launch their entire nuclear arsenals at each other at the same time since you would need several spaceships to shoot Down all those nukes, which the KNRD might not have availeble right at that moment. Would make for a good story though. "I should have been better." His XO put his hand on the captains shoulder, "you did what you could, captain. Nobody is blaming you for what happened." The captain looked up With tearfilled eyes. "Did I? Maybe we could have pushed the engine just a little further, gotten just a little more power out of the reactor, had the guns fire just a little faster. How many more lives could we have saved?" |

Some Thing like this might work? 1963: after the standoff that was the Cuban Missile Crisis The Dutch Ministry of Defence decides to create a missile defence system for Earth. Project Polderbreeker is presented to the generals. It will consist of one hundred satellites armed with five rapid fire phasers, two micro missile launchers as backup, a fabricator to build more missiles and will be powered by solar panels. The entire system is run by an AI that will respond automatically when it detects the full-scale launch of nuclear missiles. In case of computer failure the process can be started by humans. Polderbreeker is declared operational. One hundred satellites disguised as television and weather satellites are orbiting Earth, keeping constant vigilance against a doomsday scenario. 1983: Reagan declares his intentions to make a missile shield for the US and make MAD obsolete. Privately he turns to the Netherlands, who offer him a very watered down version of Polderbreeker for the low price of 5 million dollar a satellite. 1984: The Netherlands and the US sign a 2 billion dollar deal for delivery on the satellite systems and ground control centres. |
