Well, it is a pretty awful song aimed against women, just like far too much in this patriarchal world, but I hadn't expected it to also have influenced Islamism in any way. But then again, someone like that will always find a reason.

Don't forget Sayyid Qutb reacted to in some time in the early 1950's so a local ban would have had no impact there. It does have some sinister undertones, like a number of songs that have become romantic favourites but overall I suspect it's more a case of him looking for a symbol to point to for his reaction against ideas and western values.

Well..that was my evening dose of seemingly innocuous to eventually-catastrophic implications.
I understand that Qutb was raised to live by very conservative standards in a different region of the world—and I want to make it brutally clear that I’m not attempting to shame his native society or culture in saying that—but resolving to put an end to “Western decadence” through religious extremism that has since spiraled out of control is just dumping oil into the fire en masse rather than working to put it out.
Truthfully, I hope that these sorts of historical overreactions become teaching moments for future generations in how absolutely not to respond to a way of life that they don’t understand. Unfortunately, my personal opinions only have so much influence over the direction that human history goes in.
Regarding the song itself, perhaps this article and/or another same-topic story may be used to prop up the case for why it’s less than good. But that’s a discussion for another time and place.
