After his accident, his role in Alias Smith and Jones was taken over by Roger Davis, who was previously the narrator over the opening theme of the show. The loss of Forsyth proved too great for the series to be sustained and the series was cancelled in 1973.

Forsyth was then cast as Han Solo in the film star wars. Pete Duel won the part beating Harrison Ford of Indiana Jones fame.Mark Hamill would play Luke sky walker,Cindy Williams as princess leia. Forsyth refused to the force awakens not wanting to repeat himself.
