The Edelweiss Pirates and WWII - episode 33 Interesting. I knew of some young groups who were opposed to the Nazis but thought most of those were more pacifist and were crushed in the early years of the war. Many thanks.
I heard about them, but was a long time ago, checking Wikipedia, they also have their own article it seems: Edelweiss Pirates

Very interesting thanks. Had heard a little about it before but didn't realise how heated things had been and how long it lasted. Or that the real loser of the 'war' was Wisconsin as it lost what's now the upper peninsula to Michigan.

Last Stand of the Inca Empire - episode - 42
Interesting that this suggests the Inca empire had more chances to survive, at least for a while than I previously thought. That they were able to start using horses and iron weapons, aided by renegade Spanish shows they could adapt quite quickly. I wonder what might have happened if they hadn't betrayed the lncas?
There was a brief attempt at a kind of Inca revival in the 18th century, see the Rebellion_of_Tupac_Amaru_II for more details. Might have been interesting if he had been a bit luckier and had possibly got some British aid.

Do not forget the smallpox, which had spread from Central America and had considerably weakened the empire.

True. That and the other old world diseases were devastating although it sounds like the Inca still put up a hell of a fight despite all that and too many mistakes early on.
I forgot to say I'm a bit dubious about the report of the 1st encounter. If the Inca had planned to attack the Spanish he wouldn't have turned up with a predominantly unarmed force. Suspect its more likely that it was meant to be some sort of pally but the Spanish made an ambush out of it.
