Cancelled in 1965 by the then British Government, there was an RAF & Fleet Air Arm requirement for a very different Harrier: the P.1154 to be built by Hawker Siddeley was to be given that name. It was a V/STOL fighter but with supersonic capabilities.

I think so. What became the OTL Harrier was back then the Kestrel. It looks a lot sleeker than the Harrier we ended up with, but I think that makes sense for a aircraft that has supersonic capability.

Might have been to the liking of the Bundesluftwaffe as I recall they wanted it supersonic to stay in.

One of several contentious cancellations of the mid 1960s.

Absolutely but when Kestrel and P.1154 were cancelled 1965 FRG withdrew trying their own designs for a supersonic V/STOL as the British forged on with Kestrel now Harrier.
