Writing help for a Genpei war ISOT short story!

Inspired by 1632, three fictional American towns gets transported in taira clan territory or their allies during the Genpei war. The first town is a farm town, the 2nd one is a oil town, and the 3rd one is a mining town. We see the three towns fight back against the taira clan and their allies and make alliances with other clans and beat the taira and get some land. The problem is I don't how approach this. Please tell me any place I could put them as long it's in taira territory or their allies and the towns are somewhat close together and what the town need to do to survive. What time should the towns be on the Genpei war? Please give me any advise I can use. Maybe all three towns are also from 2000, heck same day Grantville was ISOT!
