'US Military Gets Armed Flying Saucers'.
You forgot to mention the aliens they came from was a nearly microscopic lifeform so the saucers are only a foot in diameter.
Seriously it would depend on how easily they could use them and what capacities they had. I.e. inter-stellar travel or just interplanetary, what energy sources they have as well as what weapons and how easily they can be rearmed.
Plus of course what the Americans decide to do with them. - Oh s**t we're doomed!!

'US Military Gets Armed Flying Saucers'. Do we not have them in Area 51. Possibly, but odds are we'll never know for sure. For the sake of the scenario, though, the assumption is that said saucer-shaped UFOs suddenly pop into existence for the US government's use. Plus, even if they were capable of interstellar rather than "merely" interplanetary travel as stevep noted, maybe it'd be safer to start with exploring our own solar system before venturing out into the great, scarcely charted beyond.

Very true both because there are a lot of resources that would revolutionise the economic and technological situation on Earth if someone had much easier access to space and because, unless their been literally magicked into existence or taken from a different universe the original owners are out there somewhere. Possibly even close in interstellar terms and their likely to be upset at the theft of their spaceships.

Good points. Due to the risk of the ships' (potential) owners tracking them down and finding other beings who have requisitioned them for their own purposes, maybe I should amend the scenario so that they just poof into existence (although they could still be based on designs created by an extraterrestrial civilization). At least, for the sake of avoiding needless complexity so that we can direct our focus at what the US government would do with their newfound UFOs.

But what else might the government do with their newfound UFOs?

‘US Suddenly Becomes Communist On January 1, 2019’. It may suffer economic decline in the long term, but it’s probably the most dangerous possible enemy you could have in the short one.

True, not a enemy i would like to face in a war. Indeed. And in addition to its unmatched military might, a US that embraces communism would take a U-turn on civil liberties to the point of making Putinist Russia resemble a bastion of freedom. Even then, that ignores the world economy’s inevitable tumble as American capitalism dies a sudden, downright calamitous death.

For a two-round scenario, ‘All Democratic Or Republican States Become Libertarian’. This would be too politically charged to belong in the ASB section, and even in Politics and Current Affairs it’d likely be a waste of space.

'1860s Union W/Modern Military Tactics And Technology'. Yeah, the Confederate States get stomped into the ground, with a far quicker and way more lopsided victory in favor of the abolitionist North.
