Well: a great deal depends on the Diehl Plan is not botched by overextension into Holland and if Huntziger and Gamelin are sacked and some younger more capable French generals are installed in their places, and if the British do not bungle their 1935-1939 rearmaments in land warfare systems and if the Armee de l'Air and RAF are not so criminally incompetent. If the OKH remains as stupid as it was during Poland instead of fixing its own mistakes as revealed in that 1939 campaign; things "might" turn differently. Everyone involved gets a human factors and material conditions vote. I t is not a simple change of axis of main effort fdix. A lot of things and people have to change to make France 1940 emerge differently. Otherwise, it is the same results with different details. The BEF still kites off with its equipment left behind and the Petain / Laval combine still betrays France and the Reynaud government. |
