Also the 1800s period, is there anything to laugh at. Comedians have an old profession. New technologies kinda look funny. Environmental damage is greatly reduced, obviously.

I've never heard of Monsters Inc, but the title seems a bit childish and the notion of an unlimited happy power source is likewise childlike - nice and innocent.
The entire of world history changes from that point. Simple as that. You've created a utopia button, which, based on human proclivities, will be broken in a few short years
What would make things interesting rather than a one-sided Balder resurrection/tears analogy is that the opposite of laughter - tears and anguish - results in power outages. Then you'd see some moves for change.

Then you'd see some moves for change. Humans can colonize space back in the 1800s. Near-unlimited technology and the insanely rapid technology advancements would do that. I doubt the Major Powers on Earth could convince the Space Colonies to participate in their stupid wars
