So, Toyotomi Hideyoshi vs the Roman Empire
Does he manage to topple the Roman Empire given his technological advantage?
IMO if he's interested in the conquest, he absolutely crushes Rome and becomes the ruler of Europe. But maybe he'll be more interested in trade instead?

Interesting idea and he will have a clear technological edge given better metallurgy and some use of gunpowder weapons. However Japan will have issues of climate, possibly affecting food supply as well and facing a totally foreign culture across whatever water gap separates them from Europe. Plus the Roman empire is at its height at the moment and has a substantial military and still fairly strong internal culture so a successful conquest could be beyond Hideyoshi although Japanese forces are going to do a lot of damage to the western empire at least. I can't see him 'conquering Europe' as the continent is too large and alien to him given the technology of the time.

The Roman Empire of 100 AD ( yes i know it is the Roman Empire of 117 AD) is still larger than Japan.  |

Japanese population at that time is approx. 22 mln so it's larger than at least the WRE.

Dealing with Hideyoshi would almost certainly require redirecting troops from the limes so Germanic tribes are going to become more active

AUXILIA 218,000 soldiers and officers. PRAETORIAN GUARD 8,000 soldiers and officers. You are right, this army is spread across the empire and most likely is focus on the border with Germania. |

And still it got beaten by the Koreans. 1 MILLION dead Koreans plus ~150k dead Chinese Also the Korean navy was superior Rome is going to have a much harder time Though I doubt there would be war. More like a Cold War EDIT: What technologies Japan has that Rome doesn't besides Gunpowder and better Iron? Hideoyoshi only has 150k men. He would invade Ireland or Africa not Rome The Roman Empire doubles down on purging Christianity. Gays and Women would be very vocal about how Christianity hates them Before Christianity dominated Rome, women can divorce and hold property. Patrician women managed to convince Emperor Augustus to not tax them. |

Rome might as well fall due to combined pressure from Japan, the Germanic tribes and Parthia. There is not enough troops to guard all r Ed gions at the same time.

Still far off from the Crisis of the Third Century which probably won't happen now. Japan would rather invade Ireland and Africa as there is much more land to get with much fewer hassles Once Rome makes its own gunpowder weapons, paper and better iron it would crush the Germanic-Celts and Persians with ease Han China also upgrades its tech and conquers 100 CE/Downtime Japan. Chinese dominance is assured |
