I'm looking for books on Anthropological/societal and economic history like Kraut's Youtube video trilogies on Turkey, the US & Mexico. And WhatIfAaltHist's vids on western, Latin american, Chinese & to a lesser extent orthodox civilizations and slightly to an even lesser extent his video on Indian civilization. And BadEmpanada's video on Argentina's economic history. Recently I became interested in knowing the whole story on how Japan, South Korea, Nepal & Thailand ended up where they are. (Personally I think whatifalthist's vid on South east Asian civilizations is his worst one, it hardly explained how Thailand got to where it is today, which is why Thailand is on the list) Like how 3 of these countries managed to avoid being colonized, yet only one of those 3 ended up 1st world and how SK was colonized and still ended up 1st world. Why is Japan so much less exploitative and corrupt than the rest and South Korea after it? I wanna know the anthropology & societal history behind it, rather than just that ''cold countries are generally richer'' And ''Landlocked countries are generally poorer''
I read the parts about the history of the muslim world from ''A history of civilizations by Fernand Braudel'' And it barely scratched the surface of what I was looking for (although it did contain a bit of data that I enjoyed that I wasn't looking for when I began it)

HolodomorThe Holodomor was a real event with real planned outcomes. Stalin intended those outcomes. We have that was his stated intent in his own handwriting. So I know BadEmpanada is full of manure, here. BadEmpanada has a BIG problem here for me. If that is a sample of some of your sources (I used it as a test. M.), then I suggest you should vette your sources with a smell test for his BIAS. You should check any source and any opinion giver against FIRST SOURCES (In this Holodomor case, Stalin's decrees and letters. M.); objectively, before you accept a conclusion. You should start with the murder of Gareth Jones, Welsh investigative reporter who revealed Stalin's intent; by the NKVD, to start your vetting of the Holodomor. You do not murder a person if you make a simple policy mistake. You murder an investigator who exposes your crimes. QED. =============================================================================== Note that, for me, Badempanada is an apologist for (Cuban for example. M.), communism; a 100% failed system and superstitious "religious ideology" which shows he is something of an "expletive deleted".

I tested a source cited, I had never seen before, for his soundness of scholarship. I chose the Holodomor because I am well grounded in that subject. I have access to the Russian documents. I wanted to see if Badempanada would be true to the first sources. He LIED. He used Russian propaganda, altered Soviet history and western Russian apologists to whitewash a state-planned crime against humanity which we now define as the Holodomor genocide. I am not as familiar with Argentina's economic history, nor do I have as easy access to Argentine sources. It was a question to me of TIME.

Urquidi (Translator) (September 2020) University of California Press. THAT is the only book I have on that subject and it would take me hours if not days to vette Badempanada that way with that book. I suspect that he would put forth evidence at wide variance with it, too.

I have watched whatalthist and compared his geopolitical views to
Emergent Regional Powers and International Relations in the Gulf 1988-1991 Hardback International Politics of the Middle East, No 2 English By Simon Murden (1995)
which I suspect he has read. He may have also superficially read the CIA Factbook internet entries.
He brings nothing new, is a fantasist, and his conclusions are quite erroneous.

If you want economic history in general, check out Daron Acemoglu, "Why Nations Fail".
If you want to know about that of Nazi Germany, Adam Tooze's "Wages of Destruction" is recommended. Currently rereading it.
