I-29 Built Through Nebraska Instead Of Iowa

When the interstate system was first being built in the late 1950's, there was some debate in the Nebraska state legislature about what to do about proposed interstate highway routes through Omaha.  Some wanted to build a route that went through Nebraska and others wanted it to go through Iowa across the Missouri River bypassing Omaha altogether.  This went on for about 5 years or so.  Between 1957 and 1962 to be exact.

Eventually, the Nebraska state legislature agreed to have the new interstate route go through their state.  Iowa wanted it to go through their state because of Sioux City.  But in the end, the Nebraska side got their way.  The new interstate route, designated I-29, went through Nebraska and completely bypassed Sioux City on the Iowa side of the river.  But there was a spur route, I-129 that served Sioux City.

So I-29 went through not only Nebraska, but Kansas as well.  Now Nebraska has a major north-south interstate route and 2 major interstate highways running through it like every other state.

So does it effect Iowa and could a second road not been build in Iowa as well ore is that a bit to much.

No, it doesn't really affect Iowa very much. As I said, there's a spur route that goes to Sioux City.
