This seems to have been popularized in our time by that Manga "Axis Powers Hetalia" and similar projects like "State-tan Project".
I'm still not sure about it... the actual content of interesting history is tiny, it's neither that funny or otherwise entertaining (maybe I'm just not part of the target group), and sometimes I even wonder whether representing the Axis Powers and what they did as cute-ish, ambiguously gaysexual boys is somehow... not revisionist, but making them appear too harmless, which they simply weren't. No, not even fascist Italy.
What's your opinion about this?

Don't know anything about either but a quick search. Looks definately like the usual stereotype Japanese Manga on Europeans. Well during my time in Highschool back in late 19!70's generalization and stereotyping foreigners was heavily cracked down upon but then I grew up in small democratic North European Nation. Says it all - doesn't it?
