In the past, I had already read some book by Matt Ruff and liked it. Hence, I just had to try out his AH novel "The Mirage".
The AH background isn't first-rate (but then again, few AH books are), but it makes a nice (as in, sarcastic) comment on US politics towards the Middle East and Islam IOTL. And the people who felt reminded of "The Man in the High Castle" have a point.
Anyone of you read it?

It sounded rather derivative from what I read until the blurb on the back page which suggested something more sophisticated. I would need to join the site to read more than the opening pages and the cover and can't really see myself having the time to do so. Be interested to see what Lordroel says when he has the chance.

For printed AH by someone who usually doesn't write in this genre, it's more than a good start - and it's also a biting comment regarding 9/11 politics. Hence, definitely recommendable. The German translations has a few flubs, but you don't have to bother about that after all.
And I like to read books online. Not really worse than the dead-tree version.

{Spoiler} Actually, the whole TL was created by a djinn. So feel free to blame him.
