The Sinking of USS Maine
On 1898, the sinking of USS Maine would spark the Spanish-American war which would start the Spanish-American war which the two Sultanates of Selurong and Lusung would be involved due to the war being near their border and the two Sultanates would be neutral at first but they would be concerned about the carnage of the war making them involved into it. The two Sultanates would decide to militarily ally and align with the Spanish in later 1898 as they have the similar interests and would also not like the Americans and enter in the side of the Spanish in the war against the Americans. The Two Sultanates Since the Castilian War the two Sultanates of Selurong and Lusung in the Island of Selurong which the Spanish call as Nueva Castilla would be supported by Ottomans with a vassal like status until the Napoleonic occupation of Egypt but they would be also supported by Brunei and the Aceh Sultanate, the two Sultanates are ruled by two separate lines of the Bolkiah Dynasty, the two Sultanates received Cham refugees from Champa which is now a part of French Indochina which have now assimilated by the Two Sultanates.
After the Castilian War, the Spanish, Ottomans, the Bruneians, and the Two Sultanates in 1578 would sign a treaty where the Spanish would stop proselytizing in the Sultanates and they are free to persecute the missionaries coming to their territories without any issue with the Spanish.
The two Sultanates would be wary of the Christian minorities in their own borders as there were conversions to Christianity and mixing between the Spanish colony which the Sultanates can’t control completely and the Two Sultanates and the Two Sultanates would persecute the Christian Missionaries, one of the examples of that would be the execution of Gomburza and Jose Rizal by the Sultanate of Lusung.

The Battle of Pasig Estuary
The first battle between the American and Spanish forces was at the Estuary of Pasig River where, on May 1, Commodore Dewey, commanding the Asiatic Squadron aboard USS Olympia in a matter of hours was defeated by a joined squadron with the Spanish and the Two Sultanates. Dewey's forces would have 9 fatalities which would cause Dewey to leave the Pasig Estuary. Due to the aid of the two Sultanates the Spanish fleet destroyed the Asiatic Squadron which would be the first defeat of the American forces in the Spanish-American War. Note: This is the map of Luzon, so there is no Manila Bay, there is only an Estuary near the OTL Bataan. www.deviantart.com/kazumikikuchi/art/A-different-Spanish-American-war-Map-AD-1700-1083242002

Founding of Katipunan
On 1892, the Katipunan was founded around the time Rizal was exhiled to Dapitan, it was a secret society initally comprised of men but later included women.
Rizal was one of the founders of La Liga Filipina which aimed for the Philippine representation in the Spanish Parliament and the relaxation of the Anti-Christian laws of the two Sultanates of Selurong and Lusung which led to the martyrdom of Rizal in 1896, Katipunan had a short lived publication named Kalayaan.
Being originally a secret movement for men it initially accepted women as well and its initiation rites is similar to Freemasonry.
Existing documents suggest that it is planning for armed revolt since its founding, and initially sought for support of filipino intellectuals.

History of the Two Sultanates
Since the sack of Tondo in the late 1400s and the seizure of Selurong from Majapahit suzerainty, Brunei would claim lordship over the Island of Selurong but they would create a Sultanate in the North of Selurong named the Sultanate of Selurong while the South would take time to create a Sultanate named the Sultanate of Lusung whose founders are the descendants of Dayang Kaylangitan although the rulers of the Two Sultanates are from the Bolkiah Dynasty but different branches.
The Sultanate of Selurong would fight with the Spanish in the Castilian war alongside the Bruneian Sultanate while the Lusung Sultanate would cede its Western Seaboard to the Spanish, the conclusion of the Castilian war in 1578 included the Spanish being blocked from prosetylizing Christianity in the territories of the Two Sultanates while ceding Samtoy from the Sultanate of Selurong to Spain while the Two Sultanates and Brunei would not prosetylize Islam in the Spanish territories, after this point until the Napoleonic Wars the Two Sultanates are Ottoman Protectorates or Clients.
The Sultanates hostility against the prosetylization and promotion of Christianity became one of the triggers that created the Katipunan.
