Let's say that at Partition, Pakistan gets the Punjab and Kashmir (the bits which became part of India OTL) but India gets East Bengal instead of it becoming part of Pakistan. How do India and Pakistan develop with this alternate partition scheme?

So no conflict in Kashmir or does Pakistan mange to get control of Indian controlled Kashmir by force and India unable to take it back. |

Let's say that the British give Kashmir and the Indian Punjab (the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana OTL) to Pakistan in partition. Kashmir is ruled by Hindu Maharaja Hari Singh with a predominantly Muslim population, he in OTL decided to stay independent because he expected that the State's Muslims would be unhappy with accession to India, and the Hindus and Sikhs would become vulnerable if he joined Pakistan, this transfer can only happen if the Indian Independence Act 1947 is different than in OTL and India agrees to it which i do not see happening soon. |

What about Punjab and Bengal being entirely Pakistani and Indian respectably in this scenario?

What about Punjab and Bengal being entirely Pakistani and Indian respectably in this scenario? But Punjab has no Muslim majority, will that not be a problem or is Pakistan going to force them out with force. |

Well, the prescence of a large non-Muslim population in TTL's Pakistan could be a moderating force in Pakistani politics just as India's large Muslim minority (which is larger ITTL with East Bengal being part of India) is a moderating force of in Indian politics.

Well, the prescence of a large non-Muslim population in TTL's Pakistan could be a moderating force in Pakistani politics just as India's large Muslim minority (which is larger ITTL with East Bengal being part of India) is a moderating force of in Indian politics. Or we would see the same violence as OTL with massive population exchanges from one side to another. |
