I wonder if any nation would probably be smart enough try and organise a system for sending some of their smartest young people to the Pacific states to learn as much as they can and help uplift their own nation. Although that would depend on them not going native or developing ideas that were too much for their people/leaders. There'd certainly have to be an orientation system in place before these young downtimers can set foot in uptimer colleges and universities, as the latter would doubtlessly prefer '58 students who treat women, nonwhites and other then-repressed groups respectfully and don't need to visit tech support every two to five seconds.

Somehow, I'm thinking of how the downtimers might perceive uptimer internet culture and what they might add to it. Further toxicity is almost certainly guaranteed, if they get access to the Web without the proportionate changes in social and cultural attitudes on their part.
The moral guardians on the period likely won't approve, of course. If you have them railing against comic books and rock music as well as firebrands in positions of power like Joe McCarthy shouting "communist!" everywhere he looks, then surely they'll crusade against online media, too. Another reason for the Pacific States to seek to govern themselves, rather than be subjected to the whims of Washington at this time.

I wonder if the 1958 America will ban some things coming from 2008 Pacific States in the form of entertainment as such being to much in thier eyes.

The R-rated stuff from 2008 is probably the first to go on the ban list, but surely there's more they'd seek to restrict their constituents' access to. Furthermore, there's also the legal issues posed by IP between the two Americas. Again, I bet that the Pacific States will exempt themselves from '58 patents, but am unsure what they might do about trademarks. The real clincher, though, is copyright since it applies to both a) 2008's conventional entertainment and b) internet legislation due to how easy infringement is with digital technologies at millions' disposal. What agreement might the uptimers and downtimers come to in regards to that, I wonder?

Another matter to deliberate here is how both sides would conduct a possible tech trade, with the uptimers providing post-'58 knowledge and advancements while the downtimers give them something else in return (i.e. autonomy to the Pacific States, potentially among other things).
What might the rest of the world make of Silicon Valley and the innovations that it's churning out, I wonder? Could downtimer STEM professionals and businesspeople take enough interest in it to see opportunity there, if you catch my drift?

I'd guess basically nothing in the way of science and technology, as implied before. But the '58 world could give them other stuff, such as food and at least temporary autonomy for the Pacific States.

Wonder what the down timers would think of the movie Pleasantville as it's a parody of the uptight, censorious nineteen fifties as seen by the 1990s.

Having skimmed throughout the Wikipedia summary of the film, they'd probably react indignantly and view it as basically an "uptimer strawman" of their way of life. The adults might be miffed at the fact that post-'58 media emphasizes the supposed flaws of that time period due to the fact that they grew up accustomed to far worse, while the kids may not understand since that's likely all they know. Teenagers at this time could have more mixed impressions, due to rock music and adolescent rebellion showing up on the scene. For some other Golden Fifties-depicting films that they could watch, what about The Iron Giant or School Ties?

The Fonz in Happy Days has unusual but sharply limited powers. He's not a Gary Stu.

I am speaking about the Tv series that was aired from 1974 to 1984 about life in the mid-1950s to mid-1960s Midwestern United States, i think people from 1958 America will like this type of comedy as it is closer to home than a 2000s Comedy series.

Having glanced at its Wiki page, your assessment seems fair. I wonder what they'd make of the actual time period this show was produced during, meaning the 1970s and '80s.
