So is the junta going to return or what? It seems that Burma is certainly prone to such military coups.

It was always a military run government, but only looked democratic, but when the National League for Democracy lead by Aung San won in a landslide, last year, it seems the military has decided that this so call democratic government is no longer needed.

Back in the day, I never had a good opinion of A.S.S. When she showed she was a baddie, I was pleased but not pleased... if that makes sense.

Strange, considering she won the Nobel Peace Prize back then in 2012. I remember seeing it on the news.

She reminds me a lot of Mugabe in how the trendy elements of the West lauds them as freedom fighters, but they are hateful dictators in the making.

ใinsert pop-up content hereใ Seems they military planned this for some time, they feared that Aung San Suu Kyi became to powerful, thus they achted. We now have to see what will happen the next couple of days, people of Myanmar have for 5 years tasted some of what freedom is, will they now challenge the new military Junta ore remain silent.

I don't know. Mugabe was outright evil pretty much from the start. Aung San may be going that route or she may have though such actions were necessary to try and prevent a military coup against her. In which case she failed as its happened anyway. While she's still wildly popular its unclear how much power she has actually had.

Its been reported that both Aung San and deposed President Win Myint have been charged by the military junta. The charges include breaching import and export laws, and possession of unlawful communication devices. The latter is supposed to be a walkie talkie, which shows how controlled communications are in the country. They are trivial breaches even if their true but can be used to stop people standing for election which is probably the purpose of the charges.

Well i toughed they would bring up fake charges of masterminding a fraudulent election in November, but it seems they decided to pick this charge instead.
