Communism 1947 With the collapse of the Sovietunion and the recent defeat of the Chinese Communist Party Communists all over the World had to rethink their political platform which led to much political confusion even if the successor Sovietunion in Moscow still fought on. Some drifted out of politics and just sat in the Pub or other Bar talking of the good old days. Others drifted into not so left wing political parties driven by their will of changing society to better the life of the poor; in the Nordic Countries this would usually mean the Socialdemocratic Parties though these as in Denmark to some looked too reactionary so other Socialist Parties appeared set up by ex-communists to fulfill their political wishes and keep the struggle going. Some went all the way across the political spectrum mainly those to whom the objective is all and any means allowed to attain it.
Josip Broz Tito in Yugoslavia and Ho Chi Mihn in French Indochina had to reform their agenda's; Ho had gone the nationalist route throwing in his lot with the Japanese in an attempt at ousting the French from Indochina – a long term objective but Ho would adhere to the Chinese proverb that the removal of a Mountain begins with one stone.
Tito had been lying low since the Italian – Yugoslavian War of 1935 trying to stay out of the limelight of the Soviet Communist Party and Comintern as well as the NKVD overseas departments. The successor Sovietunion in Moscow was too busy fighting its neighbours to consider overseas operations every warm body needed on the frontlines. So far he had succeeded and now the “friendly” fire had vanished the build up in Hungary directed it seemed at Romania had him worried; should the Hungarians succeed against the Romanians Yugoslavia might be their next target. Even if king Alexander enjoyed the warmth of Italy that might not last – the Italians had thrown their lot in on the Balkans and in Eastern Europe to become a player. Italy had the resources to do so which in itself was worrysome though at the moment it seemed satisfied with building a trade empire with some connected alliances and if possible territorial enlargement – Turkey might be a target of such in cooperation with Greece or backing that and playing the British and French against Turkey too. The Italians had become wealthy in a southern European context and wanted to be a great power something was going to happen but Tito wasn't the one to stand in the way; he'd seen too many prisons from the inside to be anything but cautious. The problem with Yugoslavia was Tito wanting to rule it all – all the various nationalities as one power. Alexander had been around too long; there had been a few assassination attempts but Alexander seemed to be able to elude them. Tito had been tracked down by the Yugoslavian Security Service but even that had been etnically divided and he had evaded. Just perhaps he should offer his services to the Italians or Hungarians though he knew it to be dangerous – the Italians would most likely sell him off to Alexander; the Hungarians were Fascists and would probably just kill him off. Better to lie low and up the activity of his old Communist Network just enough to secure his own platform – if the opportunity arise.

Colonial development 1947 The British worries weren't lessened by the Turk rethoric of Mosul being a Turk area robbed by Versailles and the Empire was searched for possible reinforcements; the situation in India had been aggrevated by Ghandi's visit to Japan two years prior and all hand's were needed there. Also the Far East and the China trade was endangered by the Japanese machinations and needed reinforcements though for the time being that was handled by the Royal Navy with the Germans on the ground in Korea and China along some Australian troops. Sovietunion being out of play and thus the threat to Xinkiang, China, and in the end to India a retreat from India was decided and Ghandi invited to visit the Governer-Generals residence. Oil of Mosul had taken precedence.
The French in Indochina had been more than annoyed with Ho Chi Mihn's Japanese adventures and the development in strikes at Camn Rahn Bay building Navy Base. The situation hadn't deteriorated to an insurrection but French reprisals on the strikers might turn the scales. However the Italian overtures in Spain had to be watched too.
The Colonial issue was also taken to the LoN by Brazil which had itself been a Colony of Portugal but now were the largest country of South America; for once the South American Nations were able to unite in a common cause which were joined by the Philippines and Korea voicing protest of colonial rule and advocating the Wilsonian Right of Self-Determination; the situation in LoN was quite interesting as Belgium and Spain being Colonial Powers adhered to the block formed against the anti-colonial movement. The Nordics didn't find it difficult joining the Poles and other East Europeans in supporting the abolition of colonial rule or at least abstain from discussion and voting. Denmark felt very well as it had turned both the West Indies and Greenland into Amts (Counties) more than 20 years ago and extended Danish law onto both. Turkey vigorously advocated the self-determination being granted the various Turk peoples living under foreign rule in Russia and China. Germany also took part in the hearings referring to its abiding to the various referendums with neighbouring countries but also its being a post-Colonial power. Britain kept its sphere of seeming aloofness of such issues as India had been granted independence and referring to the selfdetermination of former Colonies such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa being a progression from past status to meeting the realities of the World. The African and other usually smaller colonies were still in need of guidance before being ready to enter the LoN. France gritted its teeth and rejected any such nonsence as did the Netherlands and Italy the latter referring to Libya as a Province and claiming upheaval being done in Somalia but it being an extremely difficult process due to the backwardness of the populace and local customs and culture. France had made the coastal Departments part of Metropolitan France and were squeezing the Arabs and Berber out wanting no interference.
Japan having left the LoN by 1933 had following the defeat in the Soviet – Chinese – Japanese War and the rebellion of Korea asked to reenter the year before – 1946 – and had been given observer status was dragged into the talks by Brazil and the South American Bloc as an advocate of decolonization and ethnic equality which had China referring both to the Japanese colonial past but also of the various ethnicities living amicably within its borders.
The nations of Afghanistan, Egypth, Ethiopia, Liberia, Persia and Siam were all less interested in the debate except the parts regarding present European Colonial Powers which they condemmed though in very guarded wording.

Russian Civil War 1947 It had been on low activity this year due to the famine which was so much worse due to the effects of the Civil War the year before. Only the Novgorod Republic due to the import of Danish wheat seemed to be able to keep going as did Belarus which had secured some supply of German grain. The two announced an amalgamation to the Russian Republic and soon defeated the Socialist Republic of Smolensk which brought them at the door of the Sovietunion at Moscow. By now Ukraine had sorted itself out so much as to realize its needs among these oil and Italy was wanting to deliver and readily take Ukrainian grain and coal in return. Poland had wanted to become the protector of Ukraine but with this recent trade agreement the carpet had been pulled under the Poles who went to LoN to accuse Germany of renewed Lebensraum Politics – as propagated since 1890 and being countered that Germany had indeed restored Poland during the Great War! Poland had been kicked out of the Russian Civil War during December 1945 and Finland talked out of entering though this year saw Turkey ridded of Kemal Atatürks paradigm of seeking peace invaded the Caucasus to liberate areas of Georgia and Armenia which it had been forced to cede to Russia 1921. There was only Armenia, Georgia and Azerbadjan and a host of mountain Republics to oppose the Turks but the British in Iraq and Persia was very worried of this. The Turks were able to take the Georgian and Armenian areas they coveted but then got bogged down in the mountains; Armenia with its fresh memory of Genocide was by now doing its utmost to combat the Turks.
Edit: last paragraph from liberate - looked up the area in another context and realized I overlooked this.
That is a very ominous issue for the populations of those states given recent Turkish history, including Atatürk's own brutal behaviour to the Greek population of Anatolia. [Can't remember but were they expelled TTL as well?]

Small grammar quibble here. I think you mean he's seen so many prison cells to be anything but cautious? Or do you mean he's getting rash?

Indeed it is and there was the Turkish - Armenian War during the first Armenian Republic and then the Soviet - Turkish issues and Treaty of 1921; the Turks are just taking back what they think is theirs. Of course the Armenians and other Nations of the Caucasus don't agree. Really the Turks are taking advantage of the collapse of the Sovietunion. The Greeks of Anatolia was expelled ITTL.

Hungarian – Romanian War 1947 Some keen observers had seen this brewing since 1945 when the Hungarians in the wake of the Italian economic interest in the country had been rekindled had taken up politically the situation of Hungarians living impoverished in Transsylvania. So far the Hungarians had seemed toothless but the recent arms purchases from Italy had worsened the relations and a few arms caches had been found in Transsylvania by Romanian Police which had prompted searches for perpetrators. With the collapse of the Sovietunion the Romanians felt the surety of French arms deliveries diminish in case of conflict though the Airforce had had an influx of British aircraft during the Soviet – Polish War which made it a potent force. However the Italians had not only supplied Gun-armed Tankettes to the Hungarians the Hungarian airforce had also seen an influx of new Italian pistonengined aircraft; not the new Italian jetaircraft fighters but on par with the Romania inventory. Though Romania looked the part the Turks had closed the Straits to almost everybody or at least obstructing any passage due to their vocal conflict with the British and Italy having close ties to Yugoslavia and Greece and Italy to Hungary making for little room to export the Romanian oil production. Poland which had been encroached by the Germans and the Russian successor Republic was of little help mainly because of the devastation in the Galizian corner in the Polish southeast which had a severe effect on Romanian exports through Bessarabia to Galizia. The only other way was through Czechoslovakia's Karpato-Ukraine though that was as badly developed as the way to Galizia. Thus isolated the Romanians gritted their teeth and went into battle.
Initially things went well for the Romanians who enjoyed the better airforce mainly due to its airmen having had the more time to learn the tricks of the British aircraft but slowly this advantage was worn down by the Hungarians who had a flow of materiel from Italy via Yugoslavia. King Alexander of Yugoslavia had been very apprehensive of Italian intentions but the Italian oil was welcome as was Italian capital to develop his backwards country. Alexander closed his eyes and prayed.
At the turn of the year the Hungarians had been able to move up the Szamos River in the north; advance into the Bihar Mountains before the objective of Cluj and with the tacit allowance of Yugoslvia tracing supply on the railway from Szeged through Yugoslavia's northeast corner to Temesvár in the south.

Nordics 1947 SAAB of Sweden had been working on a four-engine aircraft as a real suitable longrange bomber hadn't been offered by either Britain or Germany which both looked to the commercial market as well which would mean rebuild aircraft; of course both did do bombers but not to the liking of the Nordics. The US possibilities had the like difficulties and thus the Nordics decided to build their own design. It had been in the pipeline for five years and had seen a change in propulsion from piston to jetturbine engines. The design was for a internal load of 5 metric tons and a range of 5000 km/ 3125mi. It wasn't fast but it flew high higher than the interceptors of the day and age which would mainly be pistonengined except the Italian and Nordic ones – though the British, Germans and French were coming along too. The Transatlatic Airport at Kangerlussuak, Greenland had had its runway build to take the new aircraft and a small Airforce Base build up opposite the Commercial Airport. US travellers soon found it somewhat ominous to watch the Nordic bomber accompanied by the SAAB Jetfighter Interceptors stationed there though it seemed only be occasional visits at random times.

USA 1947 The nation being highly isolationist mainly operated in the two America's. The Colonial powers there was tolerated. The country hadn't taken part in the war against the Sovietunion if you exclude sales of warmateriel to China and oil to Japan. True these events had served to an enlargement of the Navy to a Two-Ocean one and the Pacific one which was still building were even getting bases in the Philippines though the major base was in Hawaii. The cooperation with the French in building Cam Rahn Bay was seen as a possible to keep informed of what the British and Japanese might be up to. The French was an old friend and should be supported and it didn't anyway possess the Navy means that the other two mentioned did. The Germans were decent white men and only fitting for them to be party to keeping the Asians in their right place. China was still a huge market and should be treated as such. Both the Chinese and Japanese had proven themselves as fighting men and the Americans liked that. The British being the real competitor but their withdrawal from India had opened a new door of trade expansion which should be persued.

Sounds all too likely of the view of the US under those circumstances.

1948 Death of Christian 10. - orbituary; always been a Navy man though his heart beated like the Infantry March Drum. In fact the King hated the annual Navy Review of the Danish and Norwegian Navies initially only by 1918 to incorporate the Swedish and Finnish Navies. Since the occasional Baltic Nation had participated as had the French Navy/Marine Nationale/Le Royale and very recently the German Navy/Flotte. Usually he'd attend in Galla Dress which resemble the Navy Dress but were Army. Of course the Navy knew but didn't want to make it any worse on the King. The fall manouevres at Kallesmærsk Hede west of Esbjerg had the full attendance of the late King in his most jovial mind joking with both Norwegian and Danish Army Officers. Even being of less importance that was HIS greatest hour.
The eldest son of Christian 10 ascend the throne as King Frederik 9. Frederik is married to Swedish princess Ingrid who have really provided him with the safe haven he needed as he had been much at ends with his father due to his love of the Sea and the Navy. The Army is happy he hold no grudge towards it and is ready to appear in Army Uniform when needed though his hearth lies with the Navy and he likes to wear the Admirals dress at formal occations. The major grudge of Frederik's is the knowledge that Government and Populace isn't ready for female succession thus his eldest daughter Margrethe isn't going to become Queen and as he have solely daughters his line will end. Instead succession will pass to Frederiks brother Knud (OTL Knud lost the succession in 1953 and Frederiks eldest daughter Margrethe became Crown Princess; Knuds wife Caroline Mathilde – married 8. September 1933 – was the daughter of Prince Harald and Princess Helena. Helena had during WWII expressed sympathy with the collaboration Government PMs and Germany and following liberation were expelled by Christian 10 from the country; she was only allowed to return shortly prior to the death of her husband 30. March 1949 – I have a hunch though never seen it in writing that this was party to the change of succession!) who also had entered the Navy becoming an officer. Knud had three children Elisabeth, Ingolf and Christian the youngest born 1942. Frederiks time as King turned out to be very much that of a man knowing that his lineage would end with his rule and then pass to his brother. Queen Ingrid was very much the staunch cliff that broke the waves and the storm when those arose. Frederik liked the Navy, the Sea, Trains but also Music and became much of a director of the various Orchestra's but mostly he was the loving Father of three girls who had to sit in on the ceremonial Cabinet sessions and sign new Acts.

Russian Civil War 1948 It seemed the Russian Republic had gotten the upper hand on the Sovietunion in Moscow. Ukraine had gotten time to begin rebuilding the new country though the Turk closing of the Straits was a major obstacle to its grain export; the export was used instead to make deals with the warring parties within Russia and keep Ukraine out of conflict. Kazan Republic had kept the war with the Sovietunion going without entering alliance with the Russian Republic as it tried to negotiate a new state alliance with the Siberian Republic. Most Russian republics seemed to have written off the Central Asian republics which were on and off at war with each other. The Turks seemed to be active in Central Asia to recruit allies but also in the Steppes east of Ukraine – the Kalmyk Cossack lands. The major obstacle in the area was Astrakhan allied to the Sibirian Republic though the famine had undermined the strength of all fighting parties the Turks was able to recruit the Kalmyk Cossack Republic and thus gain a way into the Steppe lands. The Turk machinations in the Steppe and Central Asia made for some annoyance in Britain that felt some kind of Game developing once more though the Turks were no Russia it was bloody annoying as the Turks was the linguistic cousins of many a Central Asia etnicity and shared their Islamic belief.

Sketch map of Eurasia 1948
Very much a sketch but may come in handy regarding the events in the Sovietunion following its collapse; observe that some state borders are different from OTL as neighter Austrian Anschluss nor Occupation of Czechia did occur as well as some pre 1939 borders of Finland.
Tibet is essentially independent. Some City-states in the -stans have been shown as red dots Samarkand etc. No Lake Aral hasn't dried out.

China 1948 The Russian Civil War spilloff in Central Asia had also annoyed China as Xinkiang once again was in the frontline of more or less shooting war and with a Turk speaking minority China decided to step up its presence in Xinkiang Province. Things were much easier now than during 1936 when the Sovietunion had disturbed the peace of the Province but still annoying. Problem wasn't as much the Chinese Islamic confessors but the Caucasian element – Uygur, Kasakh, Tadjik, Kirgise among the most numerous the majority being Islamic confessors and Turk speakers and as such suseptible to Turk propaganda and a danger to Chinese cohesion. Thus the Chinese Army and Airforce in Xinjiang was strengthened as was Police forces to counter the Turk influence. However culture was also brought forward with the so far relatively peaceful co-existence of Caucasians, Han-Chinese and other etnicities of China and the prosperity the country had felt since the end of the Soviet – Chinese – Japanese War and the end of the Warlord Era.
