Plus of course if I do try and make major changes and inadvertently trigger a nuclear exchange or some Spanish flu level pandemic say! You mean you somebody of us might carry Covid without having symptoms, that is scary. Nah, it's just your consciousness, knowledge and memories which get sent back- no need to worry about any nasty pathogens-from-the-future coming along for the ride.

I think probably the only way would be with an extensive butterfly net so that no matter what changes all of us get born and brought up basically ideally to OTL.
Know what you mean about college crushes. There was a girl I really liked at college but was too shy and introvert to really speak to her about it. Probably would have failed miserably if I had tried but something you always regret. I believe meeting her earlier in OTL would not change much considering the circumstances (i.e. a crowded freshmen welcome party or a huge Sinulog festival) because those aren't the right environment to know someone. You've read my story All For One Woman. The event I portrayed there did happen but in OTL we were unknowingly in the same area but unaware of each other's existence. Now I am armed with the knowledge of eight years, things may be different. I believe that in the alterante timeline, I did know her earlier and we are happy together. I've got a pretty similar story, with my 'one and only' who I met at college, but wound up never getting the chance to get together with IOTL because I didn't want to move too fast, and she left to return to the USA (she was studying in the UK for that semester only as an exchange student) a month early. Still, I wouldn't pursue her if I had the chance to go back and do it all again, since I know that she got married, had a big happy family and has (thus far) lived happily ever with someone else IOTL. And that's something I'd never be sure I'd be able to offer her ITTL, in this scenario.

Interesting idea but how many of the people born after I - or anyone older than me arrive back in time - are likely to be born? ~31 years ago as I will be 62 in a few months would be 1990 so anyone younger members could be wiped from history. It only needs a small chance to possibly prevent your parents meeting up or a very tiny one to change when they have children and what their genetic make up is. As such many of you could end up isolated from anyone you know and/or somewhat different. For instance if the nearest child your parents have in the modified TL is a year or two older/younger and a different sex say and suddenly has you personality and memories implanted on them? Plus of course if I do try and make major changes and inadvertently trigger a nuclear exchange or some Spanish flu level pandemic say! That's crossed my mind before, though the absence of younger members via butterflies would make my modified scenario less interesting. Having us reincarnated into different children our parents might have is a creative solution, though it's still predicated on them becoming parents at all. That, and even if I'm still born to the same parents, with the same genetics, and at the same time as IOTL, there's no guarantee I'd make it into my current family (I was adopted when I was just a few months old). Which presents another problem, for those raised by anyone other than their biological parents. I suppose that, to make things a heir less confusing, we could throw in suspension of disbelief and have younger members still be born and raised in similar conditions to IOTL. Well, epic disaster or other completely unforeseen game-changer--such as the examples you mentioned--notwithstanding, of course. So nothing i where ore have on my, dam there goes my USB stick with everything on it. Didn't think of that, but it would make a difference. I don't know what SinghSong wants to do here, but as it applies to my derivative proposal, I'd be fine with us taking items we can carry on our person back in time. We'd have to make sure they're not seized by our parents, though--or worse, the government--if they stick out too much (e.g. bringing you smartphone back to 2001).

My case was complicated. Lost her thrice to competitors, the third time being last March. They started dating May this year. We met at the wrong time: November 13, 2016. I met her in a college club, but I was unaware that there was a "no-free love" rule for three years. I was graduating and she had one more year because she was an accountancy student. Long story short: it was cat and mouse. Some guy was already advancing on her so it would be rude to barge in. They became official on April 22, 2017, twelve days after I graduated. During that summer, they traveled around the Philippines. It really hurts seeing it, seeing something I could have had (I was unaware of the club rule at that time). They were official for like 10 months from April 2017 to November 2017. Heard the bastard the cheated on her. By the time she got her degree and CPA title by May 2018, she already had a second boyfriend. This second boyfriend was rich and spoiled her. When she went to the States, that guy treated her to a helicopter ride. They broke up before Valentine's Day 2019 but prior to that, the dude sent an expensive jewelry from the U.S. She works as an accountant in Makati City since October 2018 while I'm here in Cebu. She's been single ever since well up until I knew yesterday, March 2, 2021. She was supposed to resign last July 2020 because she would want to travel around the world before she goes back to study law here in Cebu. COVID-19 butterflied that away. Prior to that, I already knew that as long as she remains out of my reach, it would be difficult. Since COVID-19 lingered it even longer, all's fair in love and war. When she turned 24 last October 14, 2020, I decided to just end it by telling her how I feel on her birthday just to make her feel special. I also sent her an e-card and something cute I drew for her. She appreciated it so much and called me a sweet person. She neither said yes or no; she was basically open to it. Of course, by Christmas, New Year, and Valentine's Day, every time I send her greetings, she would rather reply in one-liners instead of the enthusiastic reply she gave last October. Learned on March 2, 2021m that she's dating someone. I don't know who nor has she posted who this guy is. It's hurts like a knife but I knew it was inevitable the longer COVID-19 kept us apart. My friends from airsoft and my colleagues have been really supportive. Told me to get her off my mind and do what I like. They commended on how brave I was to fight till the end. Pain is pain, no denying on that. Guess it's over when it's over. No, I would not barge in because that's rude and that's a guarantee to start a shitshow and a punch to the face. As of this writing, I have no information on the guy yet I know they are headed that path. Best to stay out of their way. She's the subject to my time traveling story called All For One Woman where I travel back to July 5, 2013 to meet her earlier. I've also posted snippets of this on the Morality of Time Travel thread EDIT: Last week, they appeared to be dating (with the 3rd guy) but she did tell her followers that they aren't together.
Us on the other hand, know it's just a matter of time until they are official.
And that is the big issues of time travel, will you change history in a effort to become happy while destroying somebody else happiness they might gotten. This presents the dilemma. You will be happy with her but at the same time, you're gonna destroy the harmony of the space-time continuum by robbing someone of his happiness.

I wonder what would happen eventually, I think the US and UK would notice around 2011-2012 that a small cliche of individuals is claiming to be from the same time in history giving the same story on what happens. I don’t anticipate any of us going back would have huge butterflies until about 2011-2012, when the butterflies could compound to something major. By the time I arrive, we could have a Romney Presidency instead of an Obama, or perhaps H1N1 becomes a lot bigger. I could even see alternate butterflies leading me to go to the 2012 Texas State Fair if dragged by my parents as some therapy for me going off the rails, and I come in contact with the Ebola patient there and unwittingly start a pandemic in the Dallas area. Additionally, I’m sure once we are all back in time (2012-2013) the government would take notice and probably round us up, which would be released in the Snowden leaks showing the US Government (and UK) interrogating children, which could lead to a much bigger backlash and could lead to the repeal of the Patriot Act, likely under a Trump administration, although I think the whole thing would boost the candidacy of Rand Paul.

My point is that butterflies from my meddling from 1990 onward could well mean you and her don't exist since your not born until some time afterwards.

Sorry missed this earlier. So if all goes well I can expect a contact from Denmark sometime in the early 90's to link up and see what our combined memories can do to help make things better. [Assuming of course we can agree on what better is. ] Not particularly afraid of this one - problems may arrive once we start tinkering to do better. Like if the Danish Security Service get wind of the preparations for WTC bombing in the long run something we never dreamt of may happen. Copenhagen Riots 13. May 1993 we would sure like to have been tackled otherwise; just a few modifications would do a lot of positive change. Not really afraid of the fallout of that.
Of course the August Coup in Russia may not be the real issue getting some Soviet/Russian Intelligence officer out of the way would change a lot but then perhaps even He may be preferable to the alternative.. who knows?
If we start changing things the 2001 attacks could well be butterflied totally, or occur at another date and under different circumstances. Assuming either/both of us get enough influence and acceptance of what we're saying then you might well see bin Laden not seeing in the new century which could change a hell of a lot.
Russia is a serious problem. I think the west needed to push a less hard line free market at all costs policy with Russia as it caused a hell of a lot of problems for the ordinary population of Russia and hence made space for someone like Putin. As well as providing a basis for mistrust of the west. Definitely would like to avoid him gaining power but as you say the alternative might be worse.

Quite - but how to deliver the message to the right person will be immensely tricky. Oh and once love is party to stuff people tend to get irrational.. Just a anonymous phone call that somebody is planning to do here harm, she will be wisk away by the French police to safety.
Duh, it finally clicked who you were talking about. Definitely like to see that. However an anonymous call might be considered a crack call and ignored or if taken as a threat could mean you get too much attention from the security services. Much better if say 575 or me have established enough credibility we can say "this happened in OTL. See what you can do to prevent it happening here". Even then she might have a different life and never have linked up with Dodi Fayed so circumstances may be considerably different.

How useful would a USB stick or a 2019 mobile phone be in whatever earlier time we go to? Nother would be any good to me in 1990 but never had a mobile so not sure how backward comparable a modern one would be? Also this assumes that we're given some warning of what's going to happen so we can check some information and make records of things. Like long odds winners in assorted sporting events in the 1st few days after we get back, to give us a boost to our finances.

Well if either 575 or me decided to do something to make things better and succeeded rather than ending up in asylums I think the world would see changes before then. Especially if we're got the chance to prepare for things and gather information before we're pulled back. Some selected research on details that wouldn't be common knowledge at the time and also providing info on a few 'people' like Fred_West so they could be caught earlier. Hopefully could avoid some of the political and economic problems of OTL, although with 1st Major and then Blair in charge in Britain the suggestion of a less hard right economic approach could be difficult to push. Possibly I could do something to enable John Smith to live significantly longer. Ideally at least stop the mess that developed leading to the 2008 crash with bringing the banks to heel properly before they crashed the world economy.

Something like that although I would be doubtful of sporting events staying the same for more than a few days or weeks after the 1st of us start to appear and change things.

If I was referring to my own timeline where I woke up as 11-12 years old again, then I may see her. Her and I are already born.
