A question about weapons - muzzle loaders with rifling and make Minie balls will be possible within 10 years of the ISOT once local blacksmiths gain experience. Are breech loaders possible without rubber to create rubber seals? Think if they can make the ammunition for the weapons they have now it is not needed to go back to weapons they do not know how to use. AFAIK smokeless powder is quite complex and difficult to produce without proper chemical industry.

I think there may be a hunter or two who also like to reload cartridges maybe even to cast their own but utilizing used ones will be easier. Perhaps an old Navy rifle range is to be found somewhere that could yield the needed spent cartridges. No need to build something of 17. cent. vintage with complicated handling not gastight and stuff if you are able to set up a basic 1890 style hunting or military rifle manufacturing with attachment for collecting the ejected cartridges for reloading. Whats more important is keeping life at 2022 level without smartphones but something more basic like VHF-radio for boats/ships, binoculars maybe radar for early warning. There are even airports with ruggedly looking small communter aircraft (BN Islanders and stuff) - definately possibilities in a world 2300 years BP.

They have a normal airport it seems on the island called: Sumburgh AirportWith plenty of helicopters who service the oil platforms.

There isn't a single airfield anywhere in the world. Small GA planes can land on a grass field but fuel is going to be an issue.

I understand you think it okay but i feel when you set a date you need to stick to the date, i wanted to discuses the relations Shetland could have with the Roman Republic of 100 BC Now you have change that after 2 pages worth of discussion we end up with a smaller Rome they have to deal with and potential have to pick a side between Rome and Carthage.

Stick to 222 BC Sir. I am not going to change that again. Will they get to Rome in time? Sdcond Punic War is around the corner. Most ships on the island have limited fuel and they need to be used for fishing. There is on the other hand a potential for much longer interaction with Gauls

This is what I wanted. How can Shetland take any side? Rome and Carthsge are far away and Shetland has 20k people with 40 pistols and maybe 100 other firearms in private hands which might even be confiscated for the purpose of a self defence militia. Some individuals might have sailboats and may try to sail to Rome but what can they offer?

They can offer the future, if you ever have read the Island in the Sea of Time trilogy by S. M. Stirling you can read what a small island like Nantucket can do and it has 50 % less population then Shetland.

It would be good if Shetland has a person who rules the island and sets short and long term strategy It'd also be good if Shetland takes over Britain and Ireland somehow
