en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShetlandWe know what Shetland has pretty strong fishing industry and thus is going to survive fine. The islands are also isolated from mainland Britain and are not going to be invaded. t With 222 BC as the date, is it early enough for tech to percolate to Gaul and impact Romes's campaign? What role are the islanders going to play in Britain? As the first contact with UK mainland Britain is going to take place within weeks of the ISOT, what chances are that the encounters are peaceful? What kind of goods are most likely to be exchanged first and what will be most valuable?

Can they have Shetland Empire? It's still just 20,000 people. Probably the only firearms on the island are police handguns and some hunting rifles.

They have 40 police on the island who can be armed, Shetland also might be able to raise a local defense force as there is not much that can threaten them anyway.

Do you see them going to America somehow? BTW Shetland produces 75,000 tons of fish per year. That's almost 3 tons of fish per person. I see fish becoming one of the major trading commodities together with wool and sheep

Do you see them going to America somehow? Think the priority for them is getting food in the first place, Scotland might be the place to go for them.

Shetland produces average of 3 tons of fish per person every year and I guess food is not going to be a major issue since fishing stocks of 100 BC are much less depleted than today.

Are they going to produce weapons on their own or build ships? Military and gun enthusiasts know about smokeless powder but Shetland is a fishing and tourist area not a center of chemical industry Any chances for an armed expansion outside of Shetland?

Well this is Lerwick harbor, the main town and port of the Shetland archipelago, i do not see any drydock but seems they do have enough fishing boats.

Port of Sisimiut, Greenland they have a small shipyard at least for repairing local fishingboats and also room for stacking containers. I'd venture a guess that the Shetlanders might be capable too.

A question about weapons - muzzle loaders with rifling and make Minie balls will be possible within 10 years of the ISOT once local blacksmiths gain experience.
Are breech loaders possible?
Something like this?

Are breech loaders possible without rubber to create rubber seals? Think if they can make the ammunition for the weapons they have now it is not needed to go back to weapons they do not know how to use.
