This is a thread where we discuss and post silent film videos. Rather then post every single silent film a viewer sees On funny videos or cool videos instead, this belongs under a separate identity in my personal opinion

People I feel are really missing out on silent films at least when the soundtrack is available. I personally am a fan of Buster Keatons works and I don’t really care for Charlie Chaplin. However some people may have different taste and opinions on how they view different styles of films. I can’t stand a silent films without a soundtrack otherwise it would be boring. However, unfortunately, sometimes films without the soundtrack are onley what is preserved. I am here first to try to muster interest in the silent films though I admittedly have become less interested on silent 🔕 films because I watch tv with sound
Yes stick with the comic shorts! my first Silent film was the movie the general and it was harder for me to get through it. In hindsight I should’ve watched the comical short and then later stuck onto heavier stuff like the general which only an hour long. The silent from General right there are funny instances ,but they arnt hilarous or really funy like buster Keaton's usual silent films

I haven’t seen it yet but I sure can’t wait to watch it! I’m trying to get in a very Christmasy mood. I wish other people would talk about their experiences with silent films

Let's start with Classics of silent Cinema
Die Nibelungen by Fritz Lang in 1924
Fritz lang Version is a time less classic that blows Amazon The Ring of Powers out water like a Thermonuclear depth charge...

Here's a lesser-known expressionist classic: "Die Stadt ohne Juden" (City without Jews), based on the same-named book by a Hugo Bettauer, who was a bestseller author between the world wars and was assassinated by a nazi. (I recommend the book, but the translations aren't in the public domain yet, and the movie has subtitles.) The story: In the city of Utopia in the year 1976 (which oddly looks much like Vienna during the 1920s...), the government doesn't know how to deal with scarcity of food, inflation, and inequality, so they decide to blame the Jews instead. Means: All of them have to leave the country. This admittedly isn't a good idea, and that's shown in the movie too: Economy, arts and science suffer; families are ripped apart... finally, one Jew has enough and returns to the country (although threatened by capital punishment, just for being Jewish) and has a plan how to topple the regime...

"Berlin - Sinfonie der Großstadt"This one is borderline: It has sound, but it's just (albeit disharmonic) music. In the 1920s, there were many expressionist documentaries like this movie, about various big cities.
Edit: If you want to write a TL or other story set in this time and place, the movie is quite helpful for everyday life.

Now watched "Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". Today the plot seems simple, but as I understand it, people rather watch it for the expressionist art.

I feel there is a need to review this thread because my humor is more slapstick as silent films generally were during this time .Above all else, this revival is for the reading of a list of recently recovered silent films listverse.com/2022/03/20/10-lost-films-that-were-recently-found/people often don't realize that silent films have an orchestra people often don't realize that silent films have an orchestra there are a lot of films that have been restored recently. If you wish to talk about a silent film or post a film, please do it here. Also these films are apart of our history so I really appreciate them especially if they are based off of historical events

I plan on visiting a silent film seeing a silent film in theater 🎭. To me Charlie Chaplin isn’t funny as it’s not realistic. Like I saw a short where he throws a Avila down which would have realistically killed some one. I like cartoon humor because you can get away with things you can’t get in reality. Also bee free to post Silent films here such as this one

I really have to watch the one or other Buster Keaton movie once. Does anyone know the title of the one where he plays the piano in a burning house?
Also I still have to watch something by Harold Lloyd.

Have to correct myself: Here is an older translation to English, made by a Salomea Neumark Brainin.
(Of course there's the question how to translate a book well if it's bound so closely to intimate knowledge of then-Vienna. The way a Viennese reporter would have said "Servus Herr Kollege!" - at the same time sarcastic and friendly - can't be rendered in English. Hell, even standard German would be a stretch.)
However, if you don't speak German, it's certainly better than nothing.
