I just watched The Death of Stalin... again. It is brilliant. The finale, with Beria's comeuppance, is amazing. Zhukov was hands down the best part.

Last night I watched Predestination. Very strange film. I didn't spoil the surprise and read about it before watching it: I do that far too often. It was entertaining but nothing spectacular.

LA Confidential was last night's choice of film. Seen it many times but still entertaining. Just excellent.
On a related note, Kevin Spacey was a major star in this film. When watching him, I couldn't help thinking about what we know about him now. It didn't ruin the film for me. However, would seeing Spacey in another film do that for anyone else? Or is the character played and the actor in RL two separate things for anyone else?

Dark Places is the latest film I watched. It is about a girl who was the sole survivor of when her brother murdered her family thirty years beforehand and she escaped. Now as a grown up, her life is a mess and, prompted & aided, she investigates what really happened: what is beyond the 'public truth' of the killings. I was a bit apprehensive, thinking I knew what was going to happen and there would be no surprise. I was wrong in that. It is quite a good film.

Watching Battleship. I've seen it before. It is a joke. But it has one redeeming scene... USS Missouri gives a full broadside, nine 16inch guns. Take that and stick your alien submersible up your behind!

Take that and stick your alien submersible up your behind! I just caught the tail end of it and had to laugh at a group of people man-handling a 16" shell - given how much they weigh! Then the way it hit the target with a single shot and managed to do enough damage. Presumably a HE shell as the standard AP ones would probably have dung a hole in the ground then exploded somewhere underneath the target, which could still have done some damage.

I watched Unknown earlier: it is Liam Neeson film which might as well have been called 'Not Taken, But Like That'. The film is ok-ish. The best scenes are with a private detective, a former Stasi agent (the film is set in Berlin in 2011). He is old, curious as he describes himself turning to detective work, but still on top of his game. He is proud to have served the Stasi as a spy for a country whose demise he laments and makes no excuses for the Stasi nor East Germany. He isn't a bad man either. He steals the film away from Neeson kicking behind and taking names. Great acting, great writing for this supporting character.

I saw Deadpool 2 at the cinema last night. It was a disappointment and I wish I had just saved the money. I have seen the first film and it was okay but this was trash. Marvel appear to be just making films to advertise making more films: the injokes and links to other Marvel films were aplenty and sickening. Don't waste your time nor money on this rubbish.

Do not like Deadpool and never have watched it, not my kind of humor.
