Recent films I've seen: Bone Tomahawk. It is a Western and good enough. It is described as a horror yet not that scary. Really it is a rescue story and vengeance against baddies.
Yardie. This is directed by Idris Elba, and I have a man crush on him. But it isn't very good. It is shot well and tells a story but it doesn't connect with a viewer. A shame really.
Alpha. I liked this. It reminded me of Apocalypto. Worth a watch for anyone who has the time to spare.

A few films I have seen recently:
Halloween (2018). A very violent film and none of that was restrained. Still your typical slasher movie though with silly bits so overall not very good. The Witch (2015). Brilliant; go watch it, I insist. A real scary film that left me actually shaken up. This is how horror films should be done!

I have just watched Bohemian Rhapsody and in my opinion: For a Movie that is over two hours long it felt surprisingly short. And not in a "oh, it is over already" kind of sense but more in a "that's it?" kind of sense. It felt like I just got a Surface look of all Queen's career rather then an image of what made them them.
That is not to say it is a bad Movie, it just isn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

On Friday night I watched Overlord (2018). I wish I hadn't. J. J. Abrams did this film and it is the worst he has ever done. If you know anything about anything military related, or even have a brain, this will annoy you.
Opening scene: men from the 101st Screaming Eagles in a transport aircraft over Normandy. Several of the men are African-American, so too is their sergeant. No, this doesn't work. This is 1944. It ruined the film at once for me. That just doesn't work. You don't even have the usual racist scumbag making sniggering remarks who everyone beats up or gets killed in the film. Even the even Nazis say nothing about the black soldiers they capture. And they, as evil Nazis, are being evil cartoon-villain Nazis throughout the film. That is just the start of it. People get wounded, badly, but are fine moments later. No. Get stabbed in the thigh and the knife twisted then receive no medical attention. If you don't die from the blood loss or an infection, minutes later you aren't running for your life at speed! These paratroopers, none an officer, knows that at dawn 'the troops are hitting Omaha and Utah beaches'. Really? They are in France to blow up a radio jamming tower and would you believe it but there, next to the Normandy beaches, the Nazis have a top-secret and war-winning experimental base. No, that would be in Bavaria or Silesia. It is meant to be a Nazi-Zombie film. The zombies aren't that and are just crap. The head Nazi, Mister Evil incarnate, is a crap villain. Men under his command spend their time terrorising (killing, robbing, raping) French villagers and leave their secret & important base unguarded. Oh and the bossman, naturally, sexually-exploits women to the detriment of his duties. The good guys win, the Americans land in Normandy, and happy ever after. This film is crap.

Reservoir Dogs
I haven't seen this film in years but watched it the other night. It remains quite something! Violent and offensive (the racial epithets are many and outrageous) throughout. What a story though.

Totally different and doubt anyone outside the UK would be able to see it but a couple of nights back watch United, a film on the Munich Air Disaster when the Manchester United team were largely obliterated in a plane crash in 1958. Very touching on the impacts on the survivors and the local community, also as an insight into how different life and the country was then. It was produced in 2011 and stared David Tennant, the former Doctor Who as Jimmy Murphy, the coach who helped keep the club alive and started rebuilding a team while the manager was in hospital.

OK it did get a wider distribution. Good to hear. Didn't even know of its existence until the other night when I caught it by accident. Never realised how near Charlton came to giving up football or how the FA had a major part in the disaster, given their hostility to the European Cup and threat to deduct points from the team if they weren't back in England by the Friday. So much loss, both personal and in terms of sporting talent.
