Murder and Mayhem: Michael Foot's premiership
Labour was elected as a minority government in May 1984. PM Foot's new government took power from Tebbit's Conservatives (Tebbit had been PM since Thatcher had resigned following defeat in the Falklands) with confidence & supply from the Liberals and the SNP but opposed by the Conservatives and the Social Democrats. From the start, Foot was embattled.
British Withdrawal from both the EEC and NATO was frustrated while there was the sudden rise of terrorism at home with the IRA and also shadowy right-wing terror groups (GB84 & others on the new fringe) making attacks. Political violence, the assassinations of Tony Benn and Roy Hattersley, took place and shocked the nation. The Houses of Parliament were bombed; so too was BBC Television Centre. There would be allegations in the following decades that a lot of this wasn't as it first seemed with the 'secret state' having done such things and blamed them on imagined extremists. Military exercises took place at home with the PM uninformed beforehand of them and leaving him rather concerned.
Foot couldn't control his party nor Parliament. Labour's manifesto, A New Vison For Britain, couldn't be implemented with any of its major domestic and international policies. Labour rebels watered down everything while fighting frontbenchers and flirting with the Social Democrats. Foot won a motion of no confidence tabled at the end of the summer recess and his supporters boasted of a New Start... by October, the defections to the Social Democrats began and the Liberals plus the SNP demanded too much for Foot to give in on.
Resigning at the beginning of November 1984 (in office for just six months), Foot was succeed by Denis Healy as PM before a general election the following March saw the Conservatives win big and the Social Democrats take only ten fewer seats than the fragmenting, broken Labour Party. The wave of terrorist attacks had come to an abrupt end when Foot left office but Britain would never be the same again after getting such a taste of political violence like it had.

That sounds distinctly nasty and sinister. A Foot premiership would be a disaster anyway without shadowy right wing/foreign elements causing additional problems with widespread assassinations and violence. Its also likely to make the hard left stronger as instead of being discredited by their own stupidity their made martyrs in the eyes of many. As such whoever is behind should actions is being bloody stupid as well as doing immense damage to Britain. Mind you a hard Thacterite group wouldn't particularly care about that at all.
If Tebbit hangs on to the bitter end of the 5 year term, especially given the mess the country was in, the Tories are very likely to get hammered hard, being largely restricted to their hard core vote but I think many of those they lose are more likely, if they vote, to go for the alliance rather than a hard left Labour under Foot. This would give a much better and I think more likely result to Thatcher cocking up the Falklands war. Probably the alliance would make the breakthrough that looked so likely during that period. Not in terms of an absolute majority of seats due to the mess that's the FPTF system as regional parties like Labour and Tories are going to do better than a truly national one. However they could get the largest proportion of the vote and enough seats, say 100-200 to force an alliance with one or the other. If either dumps their extremists to agree a coalition with the alliance you could have some stability and responsible government for a period plus with electoral reform this is likely to cement such stability into the system. This has a very good chance of giving better and more responsible government in the 80's and 90's.

It is a refined outline of a bigger idea I once previously tried and failed with story wise. There would rightly have been Parliamentary chaos under a Foot Government elected in 83 or even 84 though my notion was to make that worse by external events too. Can you imagine if they tried to implement that manifesto of theirs? Anyway, its an idea returning to my notes.

Yeh gods yes. Massive additional nationalisation, nuclear disarmament and leaving not just the EEC [as was] which might have a broad popularity but also NATO, additional privileges for unions. Would have melted down fairly quickly even without any right wing cretins seeking to destablise things more.

The p.o.d. is the Vietnam war not happening basically Johnson does what JFK would’ve done and pull forces out. (He would still send weapons to the south) With that he wins re-election and Humphrey wins in 72.

That sounds a very explosive situation unless there's been a lot more population movement, or conversions or by western India you basically means OTL Pakistan. Otherwise I can't see the large Hindu population there, or those in the rest of India being that happy with this.

It is something related to an RP going on in Shared Worlds. You can join. In such a world Pakistan hasn't been formed. We are just in the dev stage. The Mughals, Gujrat all had at some point, Muslim leaders.

Till now they rule the State of Janjira and have Jafrabad as vassals. @lordroel wasn't there a reference to Turks in the passage where the Dutchman is left with the Portuguese.
